PROVIDING PAIN RELIEF & IMPROVED FUNCTION

At Continuum Health & Performance, we believe in offering you a broad range of treatments to suit your individual needs and preferences. We are happy to be able to offer dry needling as one of our services at our NSW clinic, with this being a highly effective means of treating acute and chronic pain and providing symptomatic relief.

Dry needling is often used to complement other chiropractic treatments for maximum results when it comes to alleviating pain and helping clients resume normal activity. Dry needling stimulates the body to release endorphins, which are your body’s natural painkillers. This specialised technique is beneficial for people with arthritis, sports injuries, chronic muscular or tendon pain, spinal issues, joint strain, and inflammation.

HOW DOES DRY NEEDLING WORK?

The process of dry needling involves inserting a thin, sterile needle into a muscle, tendon, or connective tissue to provide pain relief and improved recovery. No medication is injected into the body, which is why it is called ‘dry’ needling. When muscles or tendons are overused, they can become tight and sensitive, which prevents healthy blood circulation. The needle helps to reactivate blood flow to the strained area and causes muscles to twitch to relieve the pain in the trigger points. The advantage is that the needles can reach deep into fascial tissue (up to 10mm or more) where massage therapy may not be able to reach.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The needles used in dry needling are sharp and thin, so you may feel nothing at all, or at the most, a small prick. You may feel some discomfort when the needle touches your trigger points where the pain is concentrated, but this will soon go away.

Pregnant women should avoid dry needling to be safe. Before you commence with any dry needling at Continuum Health & Performance, you will receive a physical examination to determine if you are pregnant or have any immune system issues unsuited for this treatment.
